Sweet Summertime

eat more fruits

  • Fresh fruit contains fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, which are good for your health!
  • Always eat a variety of fruit, and start with what’s in season: watermelon & strawberries for the summer :)
  • The USDA recommends we eat about two cups of fruit everyday —

drink more fluids
    •      The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.
    • Staying hydrated is especially important during the summer, when it’s hot outside, and it’s also good for your skin!
    • If you don’t feel like drinking 2 liters of water everyday, there are always healthy alternatives like 100% fruit juice, home-made smoothies, lemonade, and green tea! :)

    STAY ACTIVE
    • Exercising doesn’t just help you lose excess weight (although that’s good enough motivation in itself), it also lowers your risk of heart and cardiovascular disease, strengthens your bones & muscles, and makes you a healthier and happier person in general! :)
    • That doesn’t mean you need to run five miles a day or lift weights — you can take frequent walks in the park, go biking, or sign up for yoga with your friends.
    • And staying active doesn’t just involve exercising; it’s about being mentally and physically active. Don’t let your mind slow down just because you’re uninspired and looking forward to a lazy summer vacation — use that time to be creative, volunteer, read, decorate your room, cook, etc!
