You may have seen the touching promo for an upcoming made-for-television movie presented by Hallmark Hall of Fame to premiere on CBS. The Lost Valentine is based on the novel by James Michael Pratt, and this stirring project stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as a reporter, Susan Allison, who profiles a woman (played by Emmy award winner, Betty White) whose husband was declared missing in action during World War II. Hewitt's character seeks the perfect story about true love despite being skeptical that such a thing actually exists, and a young man named "Lucas" has a desire to share the bittersweet love story of his grandparents. The story takes place on Valentine's Day in 1944 when Lucas' grandmother, Caroline Thomas, who was pregnant with Lucas' father at the time, bids her sweet husband, a Navy pilot, farewell at the train station. Neil's plane crashes into the Pacific and he is declared missing in action.Betty White's character, Caroline, gives birth and moves forward but maintains the intense love she felt for her beloved husband. During the next 65 years, Mrs. Thomas religiously returns to Union Station on Valentine's Day to honor the memory of her brave husband poignantly displaying her undying love. There are various twists and turns, including the eventual arrival of the lost valentine of Lt. Neil to the young bride he had left behind many years before.
Caroline's grandson encourages her to cooperate with the TV journalist which she does, albeit reluctantly; and as a result, this collaboration results in the birth of a new love story. This heartrending movie acknowledges the power of never-ending love from the past and it embraces new, hopeful love involving Hewett's character and Caroline's grandson in the present. Undoubtedly, viewers will embrace Betty White in a dramatic role that celebrates lost love, and Jennifer Love Hewett in a part that celebrates new-found love.
